WINNERS AT THE HRS HOTEL EXELLENCE AWARDS 2011
The Cumberland Bournemouth are very pleased and proud to announce that after being shortlisted in December in two categories in the National Hotel Excellence awards, The Cumberland Hotel Bournemouth yesterday went on to win outright both categories, beating many nationally renowned Hotels including the 5 star Goring hotel, London’s only independent 5 star hotel and favorite Hotel to Queen Elizabeth the second.
The Cumberland won the following out of all entrants and finalists in the UK and Ireland
EXCELLENCE IN MARKETING-BEST LARGE HOTEL For demonstrating how the Cumberland had attracted new business in imaginative ways, from both the corporate market and business tourism in General.
BEST VALUE FOR MONEY-BEST LARGE HOTEL For demonstrating how the Cumberland’s facilities, food and service are second to none, and how the hotel goes the extra mile to leave customers feeling it was “ worth every penny”.
The awards were sponsored by the British Hospitality Association, Business Excellence Awards, Institute of Hospitality and Caterer and Hotelkeeper along with HRS international Booking Agents, and presented by travel writer and broadcaster Simon Calder.
Judges spent many months of investigation and completed over 60 documents per finalist to decide on the winners of each category, Judges include Simon Calder, David Battersby OBE, General Manager Michael Gray of Hyatt Regency London, General Manager Michael Shepherd London Hilton Park Lane, Ufi Ibrahim Chief Executive of the British Hospitality Association as well as many other industry heavyweights from large hotel Chains and Associations. Investigations included research into financial statistics, occupancy levels, customer service and business partnerships worldwide.
These awards are amongst the most prestigious and highly coveted in the tourism and hospitality industry, and the awarding of two of only eight category awards to a large Bournemouth Hotel is excellent news for the town and the resorts position as a major travel destination in Europe.
This is such great news for Bournemouth and although some London 5 star hotels won awards, it is incredible that a resort such as Bournemouth should pick up two top awards for one of its major hotels. For me and my staff, and co-directors, its vindicates 4 years of hard work, passion, and millions of pounds in investment in the Cumberland. The recognition from such experienced industry leaders has left us all at Cumberland over the moon. One judge did come to our table at the awards to say how the judging panel wanted to reward an independent hotel for “ caring” about the industry.
